Having been brought up with a scrounger (the current, more politically correct, term being ‘gleaner’), things left unused disturb me. There is an incredible satisfaction gained when making use of such objects, particularly when the items combined in particular ways can be transformed into an expressive whole.
My parliament of assemblage sculpture owls has been growing exponentially since the first one was created in Dec 2009. They are fashioned almost completely from recycled materials, satisfying both my ingrained need to conserve resources and an inherited tendency (or could one say 'compulsion'?) to glean. All of my sculptures are unique: each one has its own personality and is engraved with its name, # in the series, my signature and the year created.
